Finished building my boiling kettle which has a 12" bazooka tube in it. A mate of mine suggested if I use hop flowers (and probably hop pellets too), I need to be careful of hops clogging up the bazooka tube and having a problem getting the wort out of my boiler. Is this something I need to be concerned about or should it be alright?

I'm still toying with my set up, but what I found was that pellet hops clogged the screen to the point where I needed to scrap it clear with a spoon to get wort the flow through. Flowers worked brilliantly as it acted as a filter bed for break material (was no-chilling at the time).

Bad idea, I had major issues with one of these in a 98l kettle.

It would block up bad.

Maybe over kill but I recirculate with a whirl pool during chilling in a 73L pot, the bazooka works great in conjunction with the hop spider. I pointed my bazooka off to the side of the kettle using an L shaped connection and hardly found a scrap of boil/ flameout hops in a ferment since adopting this process; the hop spider or a hop sock and whirlpool alone would prob work just fine however.
I should mention I have a pretty high kettle loss by not using a dip tube but I'm just countering for it atm.

Sorry to bring up an old thread but how do you guys ( that have them) find hop spiders, do you get the same sort of results from your hops in the boil compared to throwing them straight in?

Or just copy blichmans original pick up, bazooka, with L shaped stainless across the front and top, you should then be good for 100l boil.

While this FAQ is only for beginners, there is a website that is fairly well know in the brewing community. For information on more advanced techniques, please have a look at www.howtobrew.com. It is an excellent resource!
Short answer is yes, I get identical results.

I dont bother bagging or using a spider for flowers, good whirlpool does the job. I have more issues with pellets.
