Guessing a little but - I bought a NASA burner and high pressure reg from Amazon, which had the american connector to the gas bottle (i.e. the bit that connects the reg to the bottle).

I went to the local gasfitters and got an aussie POL(?) connector, which screwed into the reg (same thread). Swapped it over and good to go. Gotta turn pretty hard to get the adhesive/sealant stuff on the thread to initially let go.

Hope that helps.
Thanks. Yeah, that's been my experience. Wondered if they've used some sort of thread sealant (good idea!), but didn't want to force things too much & screw the reg. itself.

Do you you have any details on the fitting you bought? By the looks of things, it's a 1/2", but don't know if it's BSP or NPT. Did you use lots of tape when you re-fitted or a simple screw-in?

It was just a standard gas bottle fitting, soz not sure on the thread, any guess would be a...guess...

Suggest getting the old one out first. I did it at the gas shop (in the carpark, with a spanner I had in the car toolbox and a shifter braced on the towbar - it did take a bit of effort to crack.)

I used a bit of gas tape, and have had no probs.

I just ducked out to grab the old fitting, will post a couple of photos from the phone which may assist. The new fitting screwed in just nice so must be the same thread.

Thanks for your help, mate! Looks like a tapered NPT (bloody Americans!!), but it sounds like with a bit of gas tape on-board it'd be sweet.

Cheers, I'll check it out. If I have any problems, I'll post-up a solution here for anyone else.

As I recall the new fitting screwed in very well, so was the same - but to be honest I cant recall the detail.

Out of curiosity is this exactly what you are trying to do, and do you have a new fitting to confirm what the thread is on it?

The shop was a specialist gas fitting shop, so had quite a range. Whilst not being the supplier or exactly the same fitting, the following has some tapered NPT POL fittings near the bottom:

Yep! Thanks. I got a 970W from Gameco.

It's a BSP fitting (not tapered), but fits fine & with a bit of yellow gas tape from the big green shed.

Thanks for your help.

Good stuff, happy to help

That would make it time to make beer then B)
