What are the best ingredients to get for my brew kit short of boiling/AG?

Is there better alternates to the Coopers cans from other brands/better?

Thinking of getting some US-05 Yeast ....can I add hops without boiling? Basically after the best ingredients possible short of boiling/AG :) Thanks

Coopers has a premium range which are pretty good. It depends slightly on what kinds of beers you're aiming to brew.

You can add aroma hops and dry hops without boiling. You could also do a small boil (say 10 - 20 minutes) and add flavour hops.

Aroma hops might be added to the boiling water/malt mix before you add your cold water. Dry hops can be added in once fermentation is beginning to slow.

Mate, if you can manage to make a cup of tea you can do all sorts of crazy things that will make your beers so much better than a straight kit. But I won't go into info you didn't ask for...

US-05 will definitely improve a standard kit (when given correct, constant temps). Depending on style there may be other more suitable yeasts that are just as simple to use.

Have you considered Fresh Wort Kits? You treat it in much the same way as a straight kit except you just add less water and they reportedly yeild much better results than a kit. Check them out at the sponsors above (or ask at your LHBS, they might have them).

Best of luck.

Depending on the style of beer you like, you may find Morgans kits to be a slight cut above Coopers. Morgans are only available from home brew suppliers, and IMHO are better hopped and come out cleaner and often clearer than Coopers.

+1

Morgans also have a range of other liquid malts apart from the standard lager, bitter, stout etc. There is their international and .... Cant recall what they call the other range name. Check out theirs site.
Edit: Saying that the ones with specialty malts will need hop additions.

Thanks I am after more of a lager but the proper lager yeast temps are quite low in the low teens? I have a feeling as I will be using an esky and rotating ice that I would still be in the late teens temperature wise more for an ale? Is low teens temperature feasible with just ice packs?

If not does that mean I can only really brew Ale's?

Was looking at the Coopers Premium Lager kit (but I think this comes with an Ale yeast anyway?) abit confused...
