Hey there, I have just got beersmith and was playing around with it trying to work it all out, so I made up a recipe for a lager (based on the american light lager, under "style") where I was doing a 12 litre batch size, the total grains/extract was 2.2kg, the boil time was 60 min.

Well that style beer says it should have an IBU of 8-22IBU, now in my recipe it says to reach that IBU profile,I need 260.27gm of hops, this doesn't sound right to me, I'm doing a 12ltr batch!!, i reckon it'll blow my head off, heheh. It uses 130.13gm green bullet hops at 60min, 55.77gm at 25min and then 74.36gm williamette at 20min.

this sound wrong or right? I can post the beersmith profile if you need to see it.

Yep, that's not right at all. I think you'd probably need less than 5g of GB for that kind of beer and volume. Could you post a screen shot of it?

Hey ya stuster, I'll have to try and work out how to post the screen shot, in the mean time I can post a text profile of the beer below.

Boil size 1.25L. I think that's where your problem lies. :)

yeah i punched the info into beer smith you should have around 13 to 14 l boil size and with those hop amounts just the first addition came to 369 ibu

thanx guys, I see where i went wrong, I had"set boil volume based on equipment" checked, when I changed batch size from 18.93ltr, based on a 2 gallon pot, down to batch size 12 litres it screwed it all up.............heh, now it's showing me a 297IBU, which would be right. One hell of a beer that would have been.

one other thing I noticed now i have it right, Is why does beersmith say to under fermentation, 4 days at 20 degrees and 7 2ndary at 20 deg if the saflager s-23 has a maximum temp of 10c???
