bugger!...first run doing a full size biab batch in the keggle and all went well until the gas ran out with 20 minute to go...just threw my remaining two hop additions in together at my unplanned flame out and just cubed it (another first...had to use multi grips to get it airtight but I got it)...any ideas how the short boil will affect my beer?

Anyone use a spiral burner? I was only using it with a low pressure reg and I think that is the cause of my gas problems (plus I didnt check the bottle befoe I began  ) but it took about 45 min to get from 18 - strike temp and probably another 40 after the mash to get boiling...Can anyone recommend a good reg for a spiral burner?

Cheers!

Albainian,
You will need a medium pressure reg to run that efectively Try looking for one at "Beerbelly" they were the suppliers of spiral burners to the best of my knowledge. Good luck.

I use the med pressure reg from Beerbelly for my spiral burner. I get around the same times as you. It's pretty good on the gas too. I've done either 3 or 4 on my current bottle and it's not even half empty yet.
I just make sure that once it hits the boil, I ease the flame back for a pretty gentle boil, otherwise the bastard is always threatening to jump out every time I look away.

Even after covering my shed in grain!!! Not a good day for ya mate.... Best to have a couple of bottles on the go.

sorry about that...dont worry though, the mice will clean it up!...My second gas bottle was empty too! time to sign up for a swap'n go!

+1 for Beerbelly medium pressure reg. My last 9kg bottle did 6 double batches.

Allright, looks like have clear and consistent advice on the reg situation..anyone have any info on what the short boil will mean for todays brew?...

what was the recipe? That will help people judge. Will obviously have less ibus but should still be ok. You can always do a hop boil using the argon no chill method to bring the bitterness up when you are ready to pitch. Use the search or google for the argon no chill method

i use a normal BBQ reg on my spiral and i reckon it's pretty good value

but i use hot water system water that gets me to about 55'c before lighting the gas
mash out to boil would be maybe 25 mins ? on a single BIAB in a keegle

do you put a lid on it untill boiling and have it running out of the breeze

On the hop side you will be ok. Alot of the cubing folks, esp. if using beersmith, are not accounting for the 30% odd additional bitterness from the whirlpool hops and the transfer to the cube. The iso-acids would have dissolved and converted if it was 20 mins no power than transfered to cube I can gaurantee!

Thats why i throw my latest addition into the cube and transfer the beer onto it. Traps all that loverly aroma!

Cube hops for the win!
