OK, my list of free hops is now exhausted for this year, lucky recipients are:

Sappas - Chinook
NickB - POR
Wambesi - POR
Barra - POR
Quintrex - Goldings

Once they die back properly I'll contact you.

Can I go slightly O.T. and pose a question. I grow Cascade & Chinook. I use them as a late addition to the boil - mostly just flameout additions.
I do this because I have no way of knowing the AA and therefore just use them for flavour & aroma.
So, my question is - Why do so many of you guys grow hops that are bittering hops & how / when do you use them? I realise Chinook is primarily a bittering hop, but I love it as flavour too :icon_drool2:
Those that grow POR especially. Are you in the same boat as me or are you working out the AA's?
Just interested, not attacking anyone.
cheers,
mckenry.

thanks fraser john !!

given that quintrex now owns my little columbus sprout , i have up for swap a small victoria sproutlet ,
probably best to keep things tidy here and send me a PM if your interested...

cheers..

Same here only use them for 30 - 2 min additions. A handfull here a handfull there, love wet hop additions, great head. Impossible to use any for bittering with accurate prediction of IBU but they all impart a flavour and aroma.

Screwy

Definitely I have plans for using them only as flavour/aroma, that said, the POR I will be willing to use it as a bittering hop in my aussie ales and just run with an average AA of 10%. If its more bitter, oh well. If its less, I can just boil some extra and top the keg up.

Yes, Chinook flavour is yummo!

anyone?

by the way i thought i would try to propergate by cutting the bine into 4 inch pieces and bury them . i dug one up today and it was sprouting so we'll see what will happen.

can anyone tell me how they post rhizomes about this size.

I have a 1yr old POR I dug up to swap (unrelated)... I am getting my GF to post it in a sizable box or something, it is not an easy one.

have had a large rhizome posted from wa , in a postpak box with some damp peat in a bag with the rhizome , good as gold , done a similar thing last week to post one to sydney but i used a wetsuit bottle holder rather than peat , but the rhizomes werent real big and the holder was a gift for a mate

I am just starting out and keen to grow some hops. If anyone has any excess, I am willing to pay a bit plus postage to Brisbane (not sure how well they would grow up here), will give it a go.

Thanks.

Adam.
