I didn't believe it at first.

A frantic brewday last weekend with an AG attempt at an Oktoberfest. Wasn't sure
the starter of Wyeast Bavarian was working as well as it should so cubed the wort
with the intention of pitching the next day.

Transferred wort to fermenter the next day and pitched a 2L starter. Checked OG
and cleaned up.

Last night the fermenter showed all the right signs and I realised I hadn't written
down the OG and couldn't remember what it was. Damn!

Luckily (?) I'd forgotten to clean the cube and there was still a few cms of wort left.
Ah ha! All I need to do is check the OG of the left over wort and it would be close.
The starter wouldn't make that much difference.

I filled the flask, readied the pen and looked. 1000! Eh? Yep 1000. Can't be!

Lots of bubbles on the hydrometer so spun it to clear them. (Forgetting that this
would reduce the reading anyway!).

What could cause this? Maybe an infection had taken hold and with only a few cms
of wort at ambient temps for a few days it had gone beserk?

I removed the hydrometer and tasted the contents.....

THE WORST PLASTIC, ASTRINGENT TASTE I'VE EVER TASTED!

Confused, bewildered and upset I looked around. And then I knew the answer.
Mmmm. Maybe I did clean up on Sunday.

Mmmm. I've always wondered what a fairly strong iodine solution tasted like!!
SWMBO is still laughing.

Don't get to post too often but love the site and am learning heaps. Thanks.

Cheers,
Phil
