1/4" And 1/2" Npt Retaining Nuts

I bought some thermocouples and thermowells from the USA and they have male NPT threads on them. Doogh - NPT and BSP thread are different aren't they. Close but no cigar.

I am seeking a local supplier of NPT nuts to use with this gear.

Anyone know where I can get them locally?

Hi Barry,

BSP and NPT are compatible in 1/2" so you could use a BSP nut. Unfortunately you'll need to keep searching regarding the 1/4" sizes.

The BSP nut goes onto the NPT thread but does not go on as far as an NPT nut (I have only one for these). I need the nut to go onto the thread a bit further on the thermowell so I can get a silicone and stainless steel washer on both sides on the vessel wall, plus two nuts.

The NPT thread on the thermowell is tappered, which exacerbates the minor difference between the BSP and NPT threads.

I bought the thermocouples to put in my fermenter lids so the thermowell is just in the fermenting wort. Then I am going to put the thermocouple from my STC1000 into the thermowell, and control the temp of the fermenting wort with the fridge.

find a fittings specialist. Eg, I'm in newwy and walked into this place: http://www.specialisedwholesale.com.au/ and asked for a 1/4" UNC (aka 1/4-20) staino nut and the guy gave me a weird look and said "just one?" and just handed me one for nix. I dunno why a thermo probe would be a pipe thread, I got some from auberins and they were 1/4-20 thread.
