    What Makes A Beer premium?

Crown lager is rubbish, end of story.

    What Makes A Beer premium?

What makes a beer premium? It is sufficient to add a squirt of liquid noble hops? It just seems that everything is adding the word premium to its title in beer land. I think that they should substantiate the premium title, what are your thoughts?

    Electric Elements

Mark, you might want to consider insulating Kettly too. I have found that once upto a roling boil I am only using about 1200-1400W for a 35-40L boil.

    State Of The Hop

I know amongst older people, ie over 30 ;-) , beer consumption does seem to be more common. But amongst most of my friends, mid 20s, wine is all the go.

    State Of The Hop

Whilst sniffing around the internet I stumbled across this, http://www.dpiw.tas.gov.au/inter.nsf/WebPages/EGIL, an overview of the Hop industry within Tasmania. One of the thing they state is that , In the developed world (including Australia, Western Europe and the USA) beer drinking is either...

    Goop For Starters.

Hi All, I was wondering what you AG people use cans of goop for? Constructive things I mean. I was wondering if it could be a suitable substitute for dry malt extract in creating starters. If you did not add sugar would you be able to get about 10 1 litre starters out of a can? You could...

    Yeast Storage Tubes

It looks like the LCA03 have a round bottom and the LC9025-UU have a V bottom with a rim around it. As a result I would get the LC9025-UU and it can stand on its own which would come in handy from time to time. You still need a stand to keep them neat but being able to stand on their own would...

    What To Buy First?

I am not sure that you can compare the two dollar wise. A keg system with three kegs is going to cost a fair bit(3xkeg,3xtaps,fridge,gas bottle hire, fittings). An AG setup is nowhere near that unless you are going for the gold plated solution. I have yet to make the jump to kegs as I do not...

    Pectic Enzyme Usage Rate

Hello fellow fruit beer brewers. I was wondering if you have any suggestions at the rate that dry pectic enzyme/ pectinase should be added during fruit fermentation? I am planning on making a cherry beer. Cheers.

    Unmalted Grains

You might want to look into what variety they are too. I was on the hunt for malting barley seed to have a play with and could not find it here within the ACT. If any one has some least they would be greatly appreciated. I could find feed barley but from what I could gather it has high...

Going From Ag To Kit, Would Like Some Suggestions.

Thanks for that. I have all the extra ingredients already ;-) so that makes it easy.

Going From Ag To Kit, Would Like Some Suggestions.

This may seem a tad absurd but unlike most brewers I never did any K&Ks. I jumped straight into the all grain but I want to try a goop in a can to see how it is. I really don't want to set out to make the most horrid brew that I can, I would like a good representation of what a kit can do...

    Hefe Weizen Mash Schedule

I have been using the schedule Zwickel suggested roughly for some time and it has been a winner. I have not experimented though.

    Too Much Hops.

Wouldnt the hoppynes die down with age? I accidentally used Target (9%) instead of Saaz (3.5%) once. The beer came up really well after about two months. I did hit it with every fining agent I had though. I think I used gelatine, polyclar and copperfloc or something at the end of the boil...

    Extract Cooling Question

You could find a food grate plastic container that is about the same size as your boil and put it in that for the night. A mini nochill. Failing that, as previously said, just stick it in an ice bath.

    New Set Up Incresed Efficancy

I am also looking at making the jump to a SS tun from an 55L esky. I have not seen any issues with efficiency though and consistently get a tad over 80%. I usually take at least 1 hour to drain the esky, some times more. Being able to apply direct heat to the tun would be great. Good stuff.

    How High-tech Is Your Brewery?

Jonathon, Can I suggest that for you next assignment, if you choose to accept it, you get a couple of robotic arms that are able to select grain, crush the grain, put into the tun, do hop and adjunct additions and most importantly cleanup. And if you are feeling adventurous, make them get...
