    Saaz Ale Recipe Help

Johnno, Today I have just done a honey type beer using Saaz. 2kg ldme, 1kg honey, 55g Saaz hops boiled for 60mins in 6 litres of water. I decided to chuck in 25g Cascade for the last 10 mins along with thalf tab of Irish moss. W34/70 yeast used. I was tempted to try the WLP530 but as I hadn't...

    Us Postal Times

Hi Guys, Just reading the thread re books has prompted me to offer a word on US postal times. I bought 2 brew books off ebay and was happy to keep the postage cost down and compromise the delivery time. Be warned, US Postal Service states that sea freight should take 4-6 weeks to Oz. In...

    Heat Pads

Hogan, The temp difference (hysteresis) from switch on to switch off is not detectable on my controller display as it only reads in 1C increments. I have a proportional switch time of 20secs on and 20secs off. Once the set point has been reached then the heat pad stays off until the brew temp...

    Heat Pads

Put the fermenter on top of the pad as this will be more effective in heat transfer. Water bed heat pads are designed to have the water bladder covering them and draw the heat away from the pad therefore not allowing the pad to get hotter in one part. Having it hang may cause it to overheat...

    The Tale Of Two Yeasts

For trialling different yeast flavours try splitting up a 23l batch into 2x11.5l batches. Then you can use smaller rectangular jerry can type containers which should fit into the one fridge

    Grain Characteristics

Guys, I'm about to take my first steps into ag brewing but am having some trouble finding info on the characteristics of the different types of malt grain. I guess I'm looking for something that tells me that x grain gives me x flavour profile. A bit similar to the chart that's on the back of...

Stephen Method To Pull Taps Apart

PP The snap taps open when you lift the lever up. Dead easy to clean and operate. No leaking after 2 years of operation so far. Gets my vote. The barrel taps pull apart easily with pliers gripped onto the handle. The barrel tap doesn't pull apart so easily when warm

    Fridge Problems - Please Help

Is the fridge a frost free model? If so then the frost free heater timer could be faulty. Does the temp dial in the fridge compartment have any wires running to it? If it's a mechanical arm attached to the temp dial that opens and closes a flap to let more cold air in then the air passage from...

    Bottling After Cold Conditioning?

Stoodoo, This same issue had been screwing with my mind for a while as I was getting inconsistant carbonation levels In the end I had to standardise the fermentation process. I finished up fermenting at X temp for five days and then raising the temp 5C for approx 7 days. Then into cc for 1-2...

    Dissolved Co2

Hi guys, When I do ales, I ferment at the bottom end of the yeast temp range for for 7 days before racking to secondary where I leave it for another 7 days to condition. After this I turn off the temp control and cc for another 7 days. At the moment the fridge can only get down to 10C for...

    To Cooper's Yeast Users!

I brew the dry yeast @ 18C but would try and keep it below 22C. I once did the Pale Ale at 24C and it had heaps of banana taste. The banana did subsided after approx 8 weeks in the bottle and it finished up tasting really good. Good question on whether dry or cultured yeast, Trent. Who cares...

Thermocouples: Can You Place A Switch Between Two

Killer, Same problem as with the switch. You have the a different metal on the plug than the t/c wire Different thermocouples use different metal in the wires and if you mix and match, no matter how small, you will be surprised how much inaccuracy can be introduced into the controller. Cheers
