    Mouldy Bottles

Isn't Napisan basically the same as bleach?

    Filtered Water

What area are you from dunny, and whats the water quality like? I'm from Perth, and the tap water isn't all that great (in my area anyway) so I use filtered or spring water.. Although I can't really tell the difference between my first batch which was made with tap water, and the others :| I...

    Bottles In Perth

Sorry if this is taken as obvious.. But one way to get a collection is to slowly drink coopers pale ale or sparkling 750ml bottles.. They are fairly cheap, strong, and aren't screw top! Other than that.. exactly what the previous guy said, and also check ebay and keep an eye out in HB forums

    Fermentation Time

So I assume it is a kit GB? Did you add any extra fermentables? I made GB some time ago, it wasnt a kit, but it took a lot longer to ferment out compared to the normal strength beers I have done.. Have you taken gravity readings, and does it smell ok?

    Alc Ginger Beer

Hey Blake, It should be fine to leave in the fermenter for a while, even up to a couple of weeks I think. I remember seeing another thread on this recently, I think it was titled "How long do you leave your beer in the barrel for" if you want to have a look at that. I've personally left a beer...

    Saunders Malt Extract

I haven't used it myself, but I have seen it mentioned a couple of times in other threads here... From what I remember it had some mixed reviews.. and maybe the quality or the process of making it are a bit different than the stuff made for brewing? Anyways, do a search for "Saunders" and you...

    Water Bottle Conical

Ok cool, thanks for the explanation :) That makes sense. And yeah, I understand the basics of secondary and have done it before, just didn't realise the purpose of using a fermenter in this way. Another interesting thread... I might have to give one of these bottles a go as an extra fermenter...

    Water Bottle Conical

I'm a bit of a noob here.. But can someone tell me what the benefit is of using a fermenter this way (ie. "upside down")? Something to do with separating the trub better? Cheers

    Bitch And Moan

Sounds like your "better half" has a pretty good wicket braufrau! You doing most the cleaning for him.. and making beer... Anyways, perhaps you could use the beer making to try and motivate him around the house.. Like that you will make more beer for him when he helps you, or that when he helps...

    Mouldy Bottles

I have had to clean lots of mold out of bottles before too, it sucks :( Now I try and remember to rinse out every bottle of beer after drinking it, and get my dad to do the same. Another possible solution to bleach is using a high pressure hose/cleaner thing. I gave this a go with some filthy...

Whats Your Favourite Part Of The Brewing Process?

I must admit, like a couple of other people here, I like bottling :) Just the filling and capping bit, hate the cleaning! I like to be able to look at a full bottle of something that I have created.. Also planning the next brew (or brews) and looking around on here for ideas is great too.

Finally Got Myself A Brewing Fridge :)

Gotta love the random numberplate in the corner too :P Good work, can't wait till I can get a brew fridge!

    Infection?

I'm only new to brewing, but have noticed the same thing. As others have said it just seems like some of the yeast sticks to the side of the bottle for some reason..? Mine seems to settle a little bit more and go down to the bottom of the bottle after putting it in the fridge for a while.. Then...

    Sweetening Ginger Beer

Added some artificial sweetener to this today.. about 40g/L, and also added a little bit of ginger beer cordial. I know the cordial will probably just ferment some more.. but oh well :) It seems to taste a fair bit better with some sweetness back in it... Although I'm thinking more towards my...

    Sweetening Ginger Beer

Yeah.. I will be bottling. Wish I had kegs :D I'll attempt to sweeten it a bit tomorrow.. I will see how adding some artificial sweetener goes, and will post up the results in any case. Cheers

Best Commercial Beer I Have Enjoyed

Do any of you guys like the beers made by monteiths from NZ? I would have to say probably my favourite commercial beer I have ever had would be their Winter Ale, on tap at the themed pub "Monty's" in Queenstown in '06 in the middle of winter.. I remember sitting down to dinner and ordering a...

    Sweetening Ginger Beer

Fair enough :) The limes probably didn't do anything anyway, was a much greater volume of sliced lemon to what there was of lime  I do have some bundaberg ginger beer cordial.. actually bought it for this brew but ended up using all fresh stuff instead. In any case the replies here have...

    Sweetening Ginger Beer

Oops, I forgot to write the size of the brew before.. I put a bit too much water in than I meant, so it ended up at about 24L.

    Sweetening Ginger Beer

Cheers for the suggestions, I'll probably go and get some crystal malt and try that... PJ, why do you say leave out the limes?
