NYE brew day .... first brew day ever

When boiling hops it's desirable to add some malt to the water. Most go with 100g of dry malt per 1 litre. This will result in better utilisation of the hops. This probably why you're only adding some of the malt

    Vanilla bean extract

Hi everyone, Can anyone share some experience or advice on using vanilla bean extract in their brews. I've used beans soaked in vodka before. However, the missus used the last in cooking and I found this stuff in its place. Basically can I use it? If yes how much in a 23L dark ale?

    3 Recipes....advice please

Thanks for the comments guys. I'll grab a S-04 for the dark and either dry hop with 30g of cascade or add some vanilla extract. For the pale ale I'll switch the hops in the steep for the dry hop. Figured the easy would be similar to the pale. So I'll give it a shot without the crystal.

    Dark Ale advice

I'd never thought of coconut for beer, but love the idea. Haven't tried cold steeping before, but will def it it a go next time. This is only my second time using choc malt. Hell I'm that excited I'll be putting down another dark ale straight away I think. After a little reading there seems...

Brew day - back in Aus... Coopers "family secret" amber ale

I frequently leave my wort to cool in the FV overnight before pitching yeast and haven't had an issue. Forget the multiple bottle approach for cooling. Get yourself a 15L cube (Fresh kit) and chill that the night before brewing or clean and sanitize your FV the day before and half fill with...
