Pour Too Slow On Dorado (celli Knock Off) Taps

I have two of these dorado taps that came with the keg-orator from pinnacle and haven't had any problems. Definitely no flow problems. I also have a Celi tap, which is by far the better tap, but the price tag helps with the quality. The CO2 regulator I got with the keg-orator was threaded...

    Coffee Grinder As Grain Mill?

I second that, if he's selling any I would love to get my hands on one - nice position to be in have "an array of commercial coffee grinders (Mazzer mainly) left over for one reason or another"

You can get a PID controller from Virtual village for $50 delivered, and a PT100 temperature sensor with a Stainless 1/4 inch threaded probe for $13.50 delivered (few dollars less if you order them together). This will give you a read out - and all you need to do is buy a solid state relay...

Recirculating - How Much Do You Do?

Was talking to the brewer at a micro in town about this - and he routinely recirculates via pump for about 10-15 minutes - he waits for it to get REALLY clear. Granted this is a 500L mash tun - but his rationale was that it helps get a better malt profile - so there is another reason, besides...

Anyone Brewed Any Of Zamil Zainasheff's Recipes ?

Really rate this book - have brewed over 10 recipes (german wheat and rye, american ales, stouts, IPAs, california common and more) - and everyone has turned out great! The major annoyance I have is the use of 'victory' malt, especially in the american ales - of which there isn't a perfect...

    Outdoor Burner

Just listed one of these for sale for $40 - but its in ACT - so probably cheaper to buy it new in melbourne... Can highly recommend it for the money - it will leave your kitchen stove for dead - but you need an adjustable or high pressure LPG regulator - don't even consider it without one.

    Basic Apple/pear & Pomegranate Cider

Craftbrewer sells only one type of champagne yeast, and also this wyeast cider specific strain - specifically mentions its use with apple and pear! http://www.craftbrewer.com.au/shop/details.asp?PID=1594 considering how good liquid yeasts can be for beer in comparison to dried, I would love to...

    Basic Apple/pear & Pomegranate Cider

I've heard that champagne yeast is a good choice for ciders... something to keep in mind for next time. Did you go the fresh juice or the UHT stuff? I was thinking about doing a cider, and wasn't sure if the preservatives in some juice would cause problems...hence the appeal of fresh...

Building A Sight Gauge Or Sight Glass

There has been some bad press regarding polycarbonate use in food grade applications lately - so glass may be a better way to go. After hunting around for some 1/2 inch (12.7mm) glass tubing i could use with a compression fitting, I located a glass blowing place in Sydney that had some 13mm...

Slotted Manifold Or Braided Hose ?

by consistent i mean a few things, which bennybrewster summed up nicely. I made my manifold like the slotted copper manifold described in 'how to brew' by John Palmer, its design rinses the grain bed more uniformly during sparging, which is important if you fly sparge - one of the reasons i...

Slotted Manifold Or Braided Hose ?

I would go slotted copper manifold. Tried both - and the slotted copper manifold is much much better. If i had a mash tun that fitted a false bottom like the one found from beerbelly or craftbrewer I would go that. Much more consistent than a braid.

How Do You Clean Aluminium Kettle?

If you want something to get off beer stone, use "Coopers homebrew sanitiser" found in most any Coles or Woolies/Safeway. Its pure sodium percarbonate (active ingredient of napisan) which is safe on stainless steel and aluminium - rips through all organic deposits. Bloody hopeless sanitiser...
