Move To All Grain For Thirty Bucks

I would say that "normally cracked grain" is 'normal' because it's the usual method (i.e. standard procedure and not presenting problems). There are a few opinions on the matter. Too fine can = too much sediment, clogging of apparatus and potentiall risk destroying the enzymes needed. Too...

Move To All Grain For Thirty Bucks

Killer article Nick, just wondering about your hydrometer though... I noticed it sitting in your wort, at what must be at least 70deg. From what I understand, my hydrometer is calibrated at 20deg. Is yours different? Also, you may want to mention avoiding boiling it as I'm pretty sure it...

    Priming Bottles With Dextrose.

+1 measure spoon but if you want the 'easiest' option go for the coopers carb-drops. I've never used them...becuase I have a spoon, but its 1 tablet for a stubbie and 2 for a longneck. foolproof.

    Chinook Hops

I'm sampling the first of a brown ale made only with Chinook. I'm not too sure 'exactly' how much I used, but I wish I'd used more. Flavours on mine have been dried apricot.

    Yeast Harvesting

Hey all, I was just given a few brews which I'm very keen to demolish today (not a thread starting topic by any means)... The issue is that I'd like to harvest the yeast. Having not prepared anything, is it possible to decant the beer (saving the yeast) cap the bottle and keep it in the fridge...

    Best Book I've Read!

I'm sure this one has done the rounds on the forum, but I've been reading a book called: "Man Walks into a pub" It's a largely anecdotal account of the history of beer. Following the progress of beer from its earliest form, the reader travels through egypt, rome, and of course northern europe...

    Coopers Stout

Thanks guys, it sounds like my (brief) run as a pure kit brewer is over. To the nearest supplier!

    Coopers Stout

I've just sampled the first of my bottles from a coopers stout brew. I was a little dissapointed to find that my bubbles were quite large, brown and produced a skimpy head that dissapeared fast. My reckless imagination had set me up to expect half an inch of cream sitting atop my stout....not...

    Boring Friends With Homebrew Talk

I've got a mate who doesn't drink. Its not for any religeous or medical reason - he just chooses not to. Anyway, if you think any of your friends got bored...I nearly killed this guy just answering HIS question. (admittedly, the question was a biggie: "how do you actually make beer") He got...

    Low Carb Brews

While many do use it as a diet, this is a true reaction. The day after eating carbs they can be sure to have the rash!
