I have my new perlic taps thanks to the bulk buy but I want to convert them to self closer taps. I need a Stainless spring to go into the tap between the closing mechanism and the tap shank. Got any ideas ?

Even give Coventrys a try mate. They have GJ kits that have all different sizes and spring strengths in them.

post up a "how to" when youve done it too! Very interested!

Looks like a bulk buy as there is discounts for bulk ! Really easy "how too" the spring just push's the tap lever closed from the inside. Now I have to work out which spring will suit the application.Small parts has a ***** load to choose from.I will keep my findings up to date.

but what do you push the spring against? Ie the tap seals with a ball against a washer so you would push the ball with the spring im assuming - but what does the other end push against to generate the "force" to close the ball?

Also try your local boaties store. This way you could take the tap in with you.

Yes you are right about the ball closing being one part . The other end of the spring, on my shanks which have a tapered mouth, the spring sits in this and self locates. Get it?

Nev,

After talking to you yesterday about this I checked out Boynes Springs website & it appears that they will wind springs out of stainless steel. I haven't made any enquiries directly, but if you can wait till I get my taps I'll get a quote. I'm not sure if they hold stock if you want to try a cylindrical spring.

Do you know the dimensions of the spring you wanted?

Ben

Where would the best place to get an interest thread happening? I'll organize a one-off run if there is enough interest.

Nev,
One of my mates left a tap on last month and dumped a keg on the laundry floor. I went thru the the junk box and found a SS spring which is 11mm OD X 17mm long with wire thickness of 1mm. A 4KG load closes the spring by 10mm. It works a treat. I haven't a clue what brand my taps are . I purchased them from Craftbrewer two or three years ago.

any news?

Boynes is the way to go. Take in one of your springs and he will wind it in SS to suit. As a note SS316 does not spring, which means all springs contain impurities of other metals to make it spring, which means they will corrode. They will be better that standard, but they will corrode non the less.
