Hi Guys,
Wanted to share a few modified fresh wort kit recipes I have made. Unsure as to what type to post as. Is FWK all grain? - possibly, but not done by me. Its not a K&K, nor an extract brew. Nor did I do a partial mash. So what do you guys think? Should there be another choice in the drop down box as FWK?

Perhaps "Recipes & Ingredients" might be more suitable?

I think he's talking about adding a recipe to the RecipeDB, in which case I'd put it under AG and just detail what you added.

I disagree. It is a kit or at the very least a partial.

All-Grain is just that - All Grain, nothing other then malt, hops, water and yeast. The grain has to be mashed.
Partial is kit with some added grain which is steeped.
Kit - Some malt extract, added with water, maybe some hops in a boil.

I think at most it could be a partial, but sadly not all-grain, even though it was made from all-grain at one time, but so were Cooper's tins.

Kit I would think.

Cheers

yep, that what I was talking about.

Yes, it doesnt really fit any existing category. I'm going to send directly to Admin. See what they say. Dont really wanna call it a kit - even though its a fresh wort 'kit' coz to me 'kit' is goo to be dissolved in water. FW is so much better than that B)

I thought a Partial required mashing, not just steeping?

I have never done a FWK or an all grain (watched it done once) but to me FWK is lazier than kits. Pour into fermenter, add 5 liters and yeast. With kits you have to warm the tin and think about what to add, extra hops, malt instead of brewing sugar, honey? Belgian rock candy? etc. It should be a level below kits. Even if the result is more reliable, there is less skill.

Sure, it can be less skill. IMO FWK still needs hopping up, i add some extra steeped grain and could if i wanted to, add Belgian rock candy. The process is limited to your imagination. I just dont have to dissolve a can of goo.
I can AG if i like, but with life as it is for me at the mo, FWK is awesome. They ARE better than K&K. No doubt.

Anyway, to get back on topic - There still needs to be a selection in the RecipeDB for this method, because it is different. (FWK may be below kits if thats what you want  I dont care where it goes!)

but it's really not. with kits you take super concentrated goo, add some water and make "beer". with FWKs you take less concentrated goo add some water and make beer. yeah, FWK often makes better beer than supermarket kits, but it's still a kit.

Exactly. It is a kit. If you do a small mash and add it you may be able to call it a partial but if you just chuck in some hops it's still kits and bits. The quality of the end product is not the point. As far as this definition is concerned it's about the process.

OK agreed. Its about the process - definitely. It is a kit - it's in the name. Is it agreed I should post fresh wort recipes under method: K&K - even though I wont add a kilo of extra fermentables?
Still, cant see why there cant be another method in the drop down box titled FWK
