Even better, if you can find it, is Southwark Old Stout.

I love the Sheaf Stout, even though it's as rare as hen's teeth for us mexicans, but Southwark > Sheaf.

Grand Ridge Hatlifter.... I'm not a regular stout drinker but this one is yummy.

There are so many!
Old timers Sheaf, Southwark and Abbortsford Invalid, although it has been many years since I had any of these.
Carbine was very enjoyable before they dumped it.
Holgate Temptress, Murray's Wild Thing, Ace of Spades, Coopers, I've barely scratched the surface!

Holgate's temptress is pretty good. A lot of the others in this thread I haven't come accross down here (Tassie) yet, but I keep looking. Our own 7 Sheds "Stark Raven" oatmeal stout is also a nice drop.

I discovered sheaf about two years ago, but its hard to find. Its the ducks .n meares uts for a man's beer, and a surprising gem from a megabrewery.i heard its discontinued tho. wonder if thirstyboy can confirm this.
,
Gerard meares now at pinchgut brewed a spectacular choc porter and I hope he keeps producing it after leaving paddys

Had a glass of Dirty Angel porter from the Flying Horse brewery in Warnambool the other day. It's a nice drop. Can't comment on a lot of the other ones being mentioned.

I did happen to pick up a bottle of Mad brewers Stout Noir and a 2xpack of the Mildura Choc-hops chocolate porter the other day. Pretty keen to give both of them the go.

Hows tjat for some fucked up android message?

Good to see the Spades is popular around the place and you might like to know a double version is in the making, a pilot batch will be on tap at the brewery on the weekend of AABC here in Adelaide, it will only be a couple months old and is pretty much the same recipe brought up to 8.8% with added amber and brown malts and the bitterness ratio increased, 8.8% represents the pair of eights in the Dead Mans Hand which we have named it.
Its currently priming in the keg and tasted great when I racked it.

Should be a good test putting it on tap for a bunch of learned beer geeks in a couple weeks but from the intial taste I think I hit exactly what we were after.

Spades never seems to quite get there in competitions being only 5.8% in a catergory with bigger export stouts but we are very happy many rank it so high.

Even further off topic Ace Of Spades is also a high end sparkling white wine or some such popular with rich black american hip hop artists, me I just like the beer.

My favourite Stouts are Feral Boris, Murray's Wild Thing, Nail Clout Stout & Wig & Penn RIS. Used to love Coopers but sadly we grew apart. Murray's Best Extra Porter is all that is springing to mind for Porter. Colonial Porter was once an amazing beer. Keep wanting to mention Kiwi brewers...

Murrays Wild Thing...streets ahead.
Possibly beaten by their own Oak Aged Heart of Darkness.

Lots of mention of Boris...gotta track down some of that! :chug:

One of the best porters I've come across is Bridge Road Imperial Oak Aged Robust Porter...serious stuff.

abbotsford invalid stout for value for $$ and coopers best extra, also can't remember the brewery but an oatmeal stout(black label with white writing)from western australia i think

I used to also like the BUL Guinness but tried it recently and it's nasty.
