im a new brewer (up to my 3rd brew) and i love dark tasty beer! Whats the best dark brew you have made?

Milk stout
Lucas choc smoked porter (in the recipe db)
Black IPA
Mongoose brown ale (also in db)
To name a few. I love my dark beers too and the missus will only drink dark beers so I try to do one every second brew.

The Coopers dark ale kit is pretty decent. Inspired by White Rabbit dark ale I brewed this and it was pretty good.

1.7kg dark ale kit
1kg dry malt extract
400g dextrose

3L boil (30 min) with 300g of dme and added
10g Amarillo @ 30 min
10g Cascade @ 20 min
10g Simcoe @ 20 m
5g of each @ flame out

US05 yeast

Would be fine without the US hops if you dont like that sort of thing.
Super easy for a decent beer !

There's a good toucan recipe on here somewhere. Cant remember where I found it but drinking it now and love it.

From memory it's:

2 x Coopers stout cans
1kg LDME
1kg Dex
30g of aroma hops on day 4. ( I used Goldings)
23 Litre brew.

Pretty easy and turns out around 8.5%. Perfect for these cold wet winter days.

A little off topic i suppose. But a couple of weekends ago i opened a 1.5lt bottle of a kit irish red that id made 2 years ago. when i brewed it i gave it a month or two to age and i recall that it was ok. nothing special. the two year old bottle i opened was amazing. if someone had have poored me a glass of it and told me it was a commercial microbrew from some boutique i would have believed them. it realy makes me wonder what i am missing by drinking my brews so young. So the message i am sending as one new brewer to amother is regardless of the recipe make sure you give the darker beer time to develop! im seriously re considering the way i brew now.

The best one I've done is on tap at present.

1 tin Cascade Chocolate Mahogany Porter
1kg Amber DME
200g Choc malt
10g Northern Brewer @ 10 min
White Labs WLP005 British Ale yeast

I was going to age in bottles but tasted so nice out of the fermenter I kegged and tapped straight away. It has a lovely smooth caramel flavour coming through.

Another vote for Lucas' smoked choc porter (upped the smoked a little though, also awesome as per recipe).

Is that the missus or the beer Truman?

Given that this is on the kits section: Headbanger stout.

2 tins of coopers stout
1kg of dex
1kg of ldme
25g of fuggles boiled @ 20 min
Nottingham yeast

Some good recipes there. Another good simple toucan recipe i enjoyed is

Coopers stout
Coopers dark ale
Nottingham (or both the coopers packet yeast)
Aerate and keep temps 18-20 C
23L

thinking about trying this one

Coopers Dark ale
Coopers dark Malt Extract
1 kg Dark Brown sugar
300g Roasted Barley
2 x w34/70 Lager yeast
how do you think it looks?
