What can I do with all the kit yeasts I have ? I seem to remember reading something about boiling them up and adding to mix for yeast nutrient ?

Cheers,

Use them in bread, pizza dough etc.
Keep some in case the first yeast you pitch fails.

my mrs collects them and uses them in her primary school science classes.

now today children were learning an important lesson.. the difference between good and bad yeasts... for the production of beer............

Some kit yeasts arnt too bad though.

Coopers is pretty good if you ferment under 20 degrees. 18 is better. Over that you get fruity beer.

You can use them for a nutrient in your liquid yeast starters cant you ?

if you boil them up to make sure they are dead, im told they make a good nutrient, yes.

I boil them when making starters or use them for pizza dough.

I don't wind up with any spares. I buy a couple of good yeast packs when at the HBS and he takes the ones I'm not going to use and swaps the kit yeasts i'm going to use for the best ones he has in his fridge.
He must do this with quite a few of his customers as he always has a good selection of kit yeasts tucked away.
If your HBS dose not do this, maybe you should suggest it to them.

Subtlety has never been one of your stronger traits has it Tony?? :p

Festa.

Na i tend to say it as it is.

I used to follow the whole "boil them for nutrients" thing but i found it made no difference.

trying to make weak yeast grow by adding dead yeast seems counter productive to me.

I like the idea of having lots of strong yeast and well airated wort........ and i already said what to do with the kit ones.

cheers
