I'm sorry Dave, I'm afraid I cannot mash that
OK, now I am making two lagers in my fermentation fridge, using the yeast saflager w34/70. Since it is a chest freezer, heavier gases, naturally, settle inside it. In the fridge there is a gas that has been created by the fermentation process that smells... well, not very nice. Since CO2 is odourless, what could it be? Is this a byproduct that is particular to this strain of yeast, particular to lager yeasts or created by all yeasts (and not noticed by me before as this is the first beer made in the fridge)?
