Well I am off to Hawaii in October and was wondering where( if anywhere) I can find a good beer? I am staying at Renaissance Ilikai Waikiki and I think I saw on Google Earth that there was a Micro near by?

Steve

Good luck SJW.

Plenty of liquor stores selling some good beer from the mainland (and some horrid stuff too), but not aware of any micros in my 3 trips over. Mind you was a while back so things may have changed for the better. Fingers crossed for you. Some great food there too - love the Mexican food in Waikiki.

Hopper.

Thanks for the tip

Hey Steve,
Get onto the BN forum (based in the US), there's a guy there bcmaui, who appears to be a top bloke that can prolly give you the inside tips on beers in Hawaii, he lives there I believe.

Kona, not sure where it is and im sure you can use the powers of google to your advantage

Should be able to find a beer here that you like, just the 130 beers on tap

Recently opened? That explains why I hadn't seen this one. There you go things are looking up SJW!

Might be able to find something that doesn't taste like making love in a canoe amongst that lot!

Edit- just spotted Sam Adams on one of the tap heads - I'll take three of those thanks!

Thanks fellas

as sinkas mentioned there is the Kona Brewing Company:

http://www.konabrewingco.com/

had a great time there mid 2007 trying all their beers at the brewery. not sure if it is worth the effort to cross the waters to the big island, although they had some lovely seasonal release only beers at the brewery not available elsewhere.

from memory you can get the full bottle range in waikiki with the pipeline porter being my favourite at the time.

definitely jealous, had a great time there.

cheers

Both companies enter AIBA and both make tasty beer!

There is an interesting podcast on BBR (http://media.libsyn.com/media/basicbrewing/bbr11-15-07maui.mp3) of an interview with Garret from Maui about the trials and tribulations of brewing craft beer on an island state with only one raw material.

I can recommend Maui brewing co!
Went there 2 years ago & was awesome!
Great food too - although this should always be the case.
Enjoyed Maui a lot more than Oahu too.
