So as the title suggests...

Ive got some left over Munich and Pils malt plus a shitload of home grown Saaz. I was thinking of getting some Vienna Malt and making a Vienna Lager. Main aim here is to use up the hops and older malts whilst growing up a nice healthy batch of yeast to have a bit of a go at making the perfect Bo Pils.

any suggestions welcome

Cheers

Luke

I have brewed a vienna saaz smash a couple of times recently and it's great. Not really within style guidelines for a vienna lager (not dark enough) but I love it. Next time I'll try 50/50 vienna and pilsener malt.

If you stick about a kilo of munich in the oven @ 175c for 10 mins you should get a nice colour and slightly toasty flavour in the beer.

I like the sound of that

sounds like a czech polotmave might be what you're after - a light aromatic-hoppy vienna, 11 plato. bit of carabohemian might be nice in there perhaps.

I've never heard of a Czech polotmave so I googled it and found this website
http://www.ashevillebrewer.com/2013/11/czech-polotmave-lezak.html?m=1

It describes a beer called Czech Polotmave Lezak, Lezak means a beer of a gravity of 1.044-48. I'll be buggered if I know what language they speak in the Czech Republic but what ever it is it's beautiful!

i was inspired by your thread to make exactly the beer i mentioned - all vienna base malt + bit of carabohemian and pinch of black malt, 35 IBU saaz, WLP810 which i managed to hold at 13C in the shed. tastes more like an altbier than the polotmave lezak i remember drinking in the cesky lands. i saw that asheville guy too after i brewed mine, i really like the look of the beers he makes.
how did yours end up?

Interesting... what yeast do you ususally use for this brew, bigsam?
