Every once in a while I get onto a British site - Jim's Homebrew Forum. A few AHBers regularly pop up there. They have a fascinating thing there they call Turbo. Started as Turbo cider. Basically, they brew 4 litres of juice in a demi john with various yeasts (all types) and get - 4 litres of alcoholic juice. It seems to have started in cider, but has moved to all types of stuff. I reckon anyone keen on cider (or think they might be keen) might try this approach and see what happens. Log onto the site and see for yourself the fun they seem to be having (anything seems to amuse the English). then again, 4 litres of fun - sounds like something they would do in prison, but a bit more sophisicated. Anyone here had a go ??

BUMP :icon_vomit:

I've made a few 4.5L batches of Mead. Easy as. Honey, water, yeast nutrient and yeast. Haven't sampled any yet though. Back down to Tassie in a few weeks, and will get to try the batch I brewed Xmas before last. 5L of plain Mead, 5L each of Raspberry and Mango Melomel. Nothing like 2000km to stop you from sampling early

Cheers!

1 problem I see with the turbo wine... Buying a cask (goon bag) would be cheaper and better...

you can take the boy from Bundaberg, but not the Bundaberg out of the boy ....................

I am a member of Jims forum as well. Seems like quite a few from here are, presumably to pick the brains of the AG pommy brewers...

Tried a turbo cider - used a champagne yeast instead of an ale or cider yeast they discuss. Not real flash.

Buying 20L of apple juice and pitching a wyeast 4766 pack is just as quick IMHO and results are a mile better. Not quite as cheap as they are quoting, some of them are paying 20p a L which does make you wonder about the quality of the juice. Plus, they add sugar to boost ABVs into the 7s and above. Why go out for a pint of wifebeater......?

Once apple season is in full swing i cant imagine fresh juice from an orchard will be all that expensive. If any other croweaters want in on a large volume count me in! I am surrounded by apple orchards so may be willing to tee this up. Also, if anyone is good at identifying apples i could really use your help working out what apple tree i have!

pulping the apples can be a hassle.
the amateur winemakers and brewers usually head into the hills for a big apple crush session, but they get a pro to grow and juice and they just take a fermenter and pay per litre.
