The bereau of metorology just posted a Tornado Warning for Laidly, Esk, Coominya.

Global warming?.... Nah... government cover up.

EDIT: It was downgraded to just a severe thunderstorm 30min later.

(made the news though, hope there is footage)

look here...

Tornadoes are not uncommon in Queensland, just that most of them happen is such remote areas that they are never seen.

Bingo. Same here in Perth.
Tornado's have been around for ages, but with the city expanding and housing filling up the coastal strip, they just get noticed more often than they did before.
Most big storms here pass thru the night, so no chance of seeing a twister. I have seen(with 3 friends) the start of one, coming down from a cloud but only(at a guess)1/10th of the way to the ground. But it was un-mistakeable.
My old-man has seen a massive water spout(if on land = tornado) about 10 years ago while sitting on a beach.
In 2005 tho there were two Perth twisters filmed by news crews and alot of amateur handhelds.
Something the size of those in the U.S. though would be very rare.
