The 2.5 vol. calculation is definitely based on some assumptions about highest temp reached vs CO2 in solution so should be taken with a grain of salt. Caution is the word of the day.
 
I agree.
I'm a massive fan of caution where glass is concerned.

2.5 is not stupidly high - one could push much higher than that, all else being equal.
Store away from stuff that doesn't like being stained, wrap individually in glad and chill immediately if any go bang is the order of the day I reckon
