OK, as far as I'm concerned this beer marketing is the BOMB! I get so sick of extreme beer marketing, nostalgic beer marketing, aren't-I-cool-and/or-ironic beer marketing and this hits my yummy spot. Just a design exercise, but effin' fabulous in my book. Totally distinctive, screams the brand, no need for ******** look at me tactics that require reading the label. Just look and see.

Nice. About 1000% better than the vomitous designs most (American) beers have that seem to be appealing to pre-school kids with the bright splashy cartoony colours.

If that does not help with beer education I will.....bugger me if that is not clever.

Why the pantone colour system when brewers use ebc or srm? The numbers make no sense to me as i don't do graphic design

I'd guess a couple reasons. The first one is that it was a design exercise by designers doing a bit of design-ey naval gazing so of course they had to use Pantone. I can hear the meeting: "Ewwwww, brewers! Aren't they all hairy hobbits? Who cares if it makes sense to them?"

The second is a guess on my part that Pantone communicates hue more accurately than EBC or SRM. Another is that they probably had zero clue about measuring parameters in brewing. And another that comes to mind is that marketing is for the consumer, not the brewer.

I wasn't as excited by the Pantone bit as the pure simplicity and immediate identifiability if you saw it on the shelf. Pantone protects their brand ferociously so the likelihood of this ever actually happening is probably nil. It just got me thinking in a new direction.
