Hey guys, as some of you may know im building a bar with an automotive theme.
Featured on the bar is a car-bq made out of the front cut of an old mini.
The bar will thus be dubbed 'the mini bar'.
To go with the theme I have several signs on the wall behind, a few number plates.
Other gimicks I am in the middle of installing is a beer tower made from a stainless steel muffler, a car head unit to and speakers cut into the bar for audio, and a set of gauges set to display the bbq hot plate temperature and also the beer temperature.
Ill post up photos soon once I have a few more items installed this weekend.

Does anyone have any other ideas on what I could add, im basically looking for something to suit the theme but also have a function as well.

Scott

Sounds promising.

Maybe have a search around and see if you can find an nice vintage movie poster for the original 'Italian Job' movie.

Beer nuts served in hub-caps? :p

CheersSJ

Hi Scott

Your project sounds interesting.

A couple of ideas that come to mind are

"gearnobs" on your taps.
Tap handles made from small con-rods like the ones you would find in a lawnmower engine. Most of these are alloy these days.

Good luck with the project and do post some pics.

Cheers

Ah yes, I had already considered gear knobs, but I like the conrods.
Ill be milling out some old pistons to serve as gauge mounts similar to:

Sounds awesome. I love bars with themes - there was one posted on here with a rustic theme (redgum and corrugated iron) that looked awesome. The car theme is awesome too. Lots of shiny chrome. Sorry, no ideas here either (except the gearnobs on the taps which has been mentioned). Is there anything you can use a steering wheel for?

Hi Scott,
What about an engine block table like the Top Gear guys & couple of old refurbished bench car seats?
If your a smoker a stub axle with an ashtray on top.
If your not a smoker a stub axle with a cigarette disposer on top, sitting at the entrance to the bar.
Steering wheel drink trays.
Old mini tyre (tire for the *(&^% spell checker) with a washbasin inside for an ice bucket, & a plastic wheel cover for a lid.
Seat belts on the wall behind the bar to hang packets of chips, peanuts & Biltong or jerky from.
A steering wheel hooked up to car horn to signal opening & closing time to your patrons.
A little oscillating car fan mounted above the bar to keep you cool while feverishly serving your patrons.
Rear vision & side mirrors around the walls for the ladies to check their makeup & the boys their bloodshot eyes.
One of those electronic signs people put in their rear car window, you can program it to tell your patrons your best daily special on tap.
Small centre (center #$%#$&^ spell checker) console you can use as a swear box if kids are on the premises.
Rubber non slip car mats around toilet, or bushes nearest to the bar.

100% for the refurbished bench car seats for a lounge!

Just an idea to go with the car-bq.
Get a rear cut of another mini, You can have a display case in the rear window, and build a liquor cabinet to go in the boot.
Good luck and pics please!

Sorry I don't have anything to add... I just wanted to say that sounds awesome!

Hurry up and get your damned camera out :p

a car head unit to and speakers cut into the bar for audio, and a set of gauges set to display the bbq hot plate temperature and also the beer temperature.

Particularly like these touches!

love the idea,
like qld kev idea of a seat, once made a coffee table for my brother. small rim to the floor, welded pipe to that and using a hub and larger wheel (nice mag) for the top section. got a piece of glass cut to suit the top. wish i had of put a tyre of the floor rim also. had the mag engraved for him 21st birthday.
good luck with it all can't wait for the pics.

like it so far. is the red for faster cooking times. lol.
