Hi So Im looking at finally making first first brew in the bag tomorrow!
Im doing a half batch for all of the simplicity.
The recipe I found is here https://beerrecipes.org/Recipe/9456/dr-smurtos-golden-ale.html

My questions:
What size strike water do i start with?
How best to sparge?
Will this be okay in a no chill method?
Does anyone have a better recipe or method?
Thanks Lads Im super excited.

Good to hear mate.

Do you use brewing software? Beersmith has DSGA as an out of the box recipe if I recall correctly. If not, it's easy to find and download it. It's an excellent first recipe.
Using Beersmith (or another tool) you can have things like strike water and sparge volume calculated. Bit of a learning curve but they're invaluable tools if you want repeatability and predictability in your brews.
As for how best to sparge, if you only have BIAB gear that might be difficult. Do you have a malt pipe?

Hi BBB,

There are several iterations of this recipe as he tweaks it along the way. None are bad, just slightly different.

As for brewing software, start with IanH BIAB spreadsheet if you have excel. https://aussiehomebrewer.com/threads/biab-beer-designer-spreadsheet.55955/
Can select no chill in BIAB page. Will calculate water volumes etc.No need to sparge with BIAB, just drain & squeeze.

As for no chill some will say move the hop additions back 10 to 15 mins from a traditional recipe. All additions less than 15min get chucked in the cube. All this is a grey area and subject to individuals preferences.

Have fun with it.

I say have a crack at it and then adjust it as you like to fine tune it. My first BIAB was that recipe with ale malt as the base and omitting the munich and was quite happy with it. I have just done it again and added the munich to see how much it changes the malt profile.

Here is a thread with variations and history written by the man himself.

Good luck with your first AG brew. Remember my first BIAB, exciting and slightly daunting at the same time. Only thing I'll add is have an outline of the brew steps printed out and make sure you have everything laid out and organised. The process isn't that complicated but it'll help and should make things go a little easier the first time.
