Hi,

Hoping, someone can give me some guidelines for what ratio of rice hulls to grist should I be using on a HERMS system:
- When only husked matlst used?
- When huskless, like Rye and Wheat, are included in the grist?

Also, as Rye and Wheat are huskless ido you get more efficicency if you mill them more as you don't need to worry about ruining the husk?

Thanks.

Basically, if you mill finer, you'll increase the extraction efficiency, but you'll also change the balance of a beer if they're milled differently.

That said, i doubt it's worth the effort.

For the average batch of a 1.045 middle of the range style hefe, i'd use something like 150-200g of rice hulls in a batch. To be sure to be sure. Different horses for different courses. What you're trying to do is create a bigger filter bed to let the brew flow freely and without interuption.

Hope this makes sense.

Martin
