I was flicking through a magazine article the other day and came across a strange recipe that involved using a duck in the brewing process.

Yes you read that right a duck. If I find the recipe for it again I will post it but it got me thinking what other strange things have people heard of being boiled, mashed and/or fermented to make the drink we all love called beer? Post away with the weird whacky and wonderful!

Some people say their glass is half full, other say it's half empty while I say I think it's time for another round!

Once I saw a bloke dip his penis into his mates schooner when he went to the toilet.

That bloke must have been a real risk taker. Never know what he might have caught
from his mate by dipping his penis into his mates schooner !!

Regards

Graeme

Once this chick I knew was getting harrassed by some guy all the time. One night she offered to buy him a beer, bought it, went off to the toilets and got another guy she was seeing to bat off in the bottle. Then she took it back out and the other guy drank it.
Now that's a strange additive... Mmmm rich creamy head.

Wow dude, you really took that up to the next level. So how is George Michael anyway?

Personally, I don't think I could muster the required level of excitement in a pub ********* to dispense such an offering. You know, with all the slamming of doors, farting and wiffy urinal cake waft.

I'm sure she gave him a hand but yeah...

*note I'm not any of the characters in said disgusting story

Sometime soon I want to make a beer with dates. Dont know if its been done, but hell, its worth a shot.

Half batch only though ;)

That's funny Ted, I was having a few dates the other day to get the old blocked bowel moving a bit, wait thats prunes, any way and thought that the dates had a certain sweet aroma to them that would go well with some special B and caraaroma. I'm thinking boil your chosen amount of finely chopped dates in a litre of water, strain the liquid into the boil and keep on rolling. Maybe in a dark Belgian or even a wacky saison....ooohhh saison.

It may make you spew, but if you try it, let us know.

Well its worth a shot - the dates I buy from UAE saqy that theyre 58% sugar on the nutritional table. How much of that is fermentable I dont know.

I would probably use 1/2 kilo to a batch of nice roasty oatmeal stout. Maybe add a sprig of vanilla.

Middle Eastern Christmas beer ! Oh, wait a second.

I've had brewing a pumpkin ESB on my mind for ages now, however this may now take a backseat for a "Brown Date Belgian"

Hmm. Date beer? Doesn't that have a late addition of Rohypnol?

One of the brewers here, had his dog drop a sloppy wet tennis ball in his fermenter....yum!!!

I had an O ring from the lid of a cube fall into the fermenter while I was pouring it in. The krausen had a wierd hole in it; had no idea what was going until until primary ferment had finished!

What about figs?

Does anyone have any experience with adding figs to the secondary?

I was thinking of brewing something like this:

95% Pale Malt
5% CaraPils
Amarillo 60 min to 25IBU
WLP001 California Ale
500g chopped figs to secondary for 2 weeks.

Any thoughts?

I have a massive fig tree that every year produces more figs than i can use and give away.

Always wondered about adding figs to beer but never have.

I think you would need a lot more figs though as they aren't a very strong flavour. I was thinking about 2-3kgs for a 20L batch.
