I store all My Yeast in the door of my lagering fridge and have had no problems with them to date. Yesterday I made a starter from my 2178 Wyeat Lager blend.

It has taken off no problem overnight but i was thinking is there any real way to store a lager yeast in the fridge as they still work down at very low temperatures and while it is siting in the fridge it still wants to go .

Does that mean it will not last as long as an ale Yeast or does anyone have different ways of keeping them from always being rady to burst the little plastic bottle they are in

If the beer (in the plastic bottle) in which your yeast sits is fully attenuated, then it will not produce any more CO2.
If the yeast has finished it's work, no more gas, no more pressure build-up, no exploding bottles.

That's why I release pressure for a few days before storing the yeast culture in the fridge. Of course, you'll need to reactivate before pitching into a wort.
