Hi folks...

Just a quick one.... I know that boiling etc will sterilise glass jars (for yeast collection), but can the humble microwave be used to sterilise also?

If so, this would surely be a much more convenient method. And if so, how long should they be zapped for?

Here is a link to an article on the subject....

G'day Mike, I occasionally boil water in the microwave oven when I'm preparing to store yeast. Usually 1/2 cup in a preserve jar for 1-2 minutes. Tighten lid and allow to cool in the microwave until the lid pops back down. Store in fridge until ready to add yeast, I use this boiled water to wash the beer out of yeast for my yeast farm.

best way I know to sterilize jars

bunk them in an cold oven heat to 150'c

leave them in the oven for ten minutes , that hot you cannot hold them

cool

santitize your lids the same way as your bottles , I use PSR
