Not ready to build a sight gauge just yet so i am wondering what alternatives are out there to be used?

Any pictures would be great also, as a pic paints a thousand words etc etc

If your kettle or HLT are at eye level a Borretgauge is pretty easy to make. Mine's in my boiler and works well. :beerbang:

I suppose a strip of marked aluminium with a hooked top would easily do a similar job in a keg shaped kettle, eh? That way you can remove it when you don't need to be measuring, eg, cleanup etc...I can live with a millimetre or two of discrepancy.

A simple solution is a couple of marks on your mash paddle. Just calibrate it with known quantities of water first... It works a treat and it's always on hand.

Yep, I just use a dipstick with marked volumes on it. Best thing is that all my vessels are the same so my dipstick works for all of them and I just move it round as needed.
