Shaking The Fermenter

If you desire you can open the lid up and try to seal it again.
Sometime the seal around the airlock is leaking too.
If you take care in not introducing any critter to the beer the Co2 will blanket the beer pretty quickly once sealed again.

It is alway a good idea to take out seals and replace it in sanitary fasion between brews and don't screw it back on too tight.
As for the airlock, they are not necessary. You can alway put blue tack around the airlock seal or just gladwarp the fermenter.

If you are confident that you are in the clear with just doing gravity reading why risk spoiling your 2nd brew

You haven't sealed the fermenter properly.

One easy test is to squeeze the fermenter and watch the air lock. If the water levels don't equalise as you are squeezing it, the fermenter is sealed!
