On friday night I was kegging a brew, and tipped out the saniclean in the keg into the kitchen sink.

I realised that the phosphoric acid could stain the bench, so went over it with a sponge.

But today I moved the bottled of saniclean only to find a phosphoric acid stain.

I had this 18 months ago with some phosphoric acid ph adjuster for grey water, and was lucky to not have to replace the laundry bench top. But this is the kitchen bench.

Please tell me how to fix this - it obviously going to cost quite a bit.

Not a fix but you could just dirty it up unevenly with something grey and it should escape casual inspection.

I need a shit load more than that. Help please.

It is hard for me to tell from the picture if it is laminate or not. If it is laminate I'd say you are boned. If stone you might be able to cut it back and polish again but I'd wager that that'd end up looking worse.

Why not ask a kitchen bench specialist? especially a stone bench top manufacturer. I'm not trying to be a smart arse, but they might know more about fixing this.

I've had similar issues with starsan and my laminate top bench. If your's is laminate, only thing to do is suck it up. Or buy a new bench top

It just keeps getting worse! dont tell anyone, but I now have a flood in the kitchen! I am cursed!

You are pharkd dude

Need to re-laminate

Luckily there is a join nearby, so if you can find the same laminate shouldn't be too much of a drama

Good luck

Not having much luck today are we??

When I was working in cabinet making, we charged bench tops out at about $120 per metre + labour. They would probably be more now as I have been out of the trade for a year. Looking at that picture, I think you could do with a new one.

Rental or owned?

I've done some stupid things in my time so I won't judge but maybe you should go to bed and start again tomorrow. I certainly wouldn't work on the automated brewery tonight.

Did the same in a spot with starsan. Try some dark permanent texta /cd marker to match the colour. smear it to get the marbling.
Not perfect but got me out of jail...

Too bad your stains are on both part of the joins.
I'd say the texta will be your best option.

And thankyou for posting this question. It'll teach me to stay the hell out of the kitchen.

Laminex have Colourfills for fixing chips etc in their laminates. Providing you can find a close colour match you might be able to thin it out with a solvent & paint over?

Try golf balls, it didn't work with the oil spill but its worth a try.

Was the Starsan diluted or concentrated when it damaged the laminate?

I did the same thing within a month of us buying our place. SWMBO wasn't massively impressed. She was even less impressed when I suggested that I "fix" it by creating a universal stain. Mine was diluted but sat there for a fair while before being wiped up.
