Got a weird request (via F###Book) from a publisher this week for a recipe for a home brewing calendar, not sure how they found me. I got a 2nd in Vicbrew with this recipe http://aussiehomebrewer.com/recipe/709-better-red-than-dead/ last year so I assume they found me that way.

Anyway turns out I hadn't changed my recipe from one I'd found here, so I was looking at origin of the recipe, then found it came from a 2009 issue of Zymurgy.

So I've declined to contribute to it, I don't really like to be in the spotlight much anyway

The publisher sounds pretty keen to get a recipe for their calendar so if anyone has a good original recipe you could get published at the drop of a hat. PM me and I'll send their email to you.

Cheers Mudd

I remember a few years ago a publisher wanting recipes for a brewing recipe book, asked plenty of brewers by direct email as well. Why would you want to offer a award winning recipe only so some random probably non brewing interested person to make money off it?

Did I mention I'm very cynical ?
Edit, Having said that, congratulations on the placing in Vicbrew, not an easy comp to place in.

I also got asked, and yes it is through state comp results that they're finding people. I believe they're also working with Grain and Grape to convert recipes and what not. From what I understand, Vicki, the lady who is organising the calendar is a homebrewer herself and has pushed the idea to her bosses. When I heard that the recipes were to be converted to extract with a web link for AG, I managed to convince them to include the AG recipe on the calendar.

I don't really mind the whole 'make money off MY recipe' thing. At the end of the day, the recipe is such a small factor in the brew process. YES, you need a good recipe, but let's be honest, most of our good recipes are rooted in brewing classic styles or similar with some tweaks here and there.

To me, it's an opportunity for a talking point, I get a few free calendars for family and friends, and it raises the profile of AG brewing in places beyond your LHBS. Seems fair to me.

Hi All - My name is Vicki and I am still looking for an Irish Red Ale recipe for the month of May for 2015 (May Day being the theme). I have a Irish Red Ale recipe which I sourced from BYO but I much prefer to push our own brewers and raise the profile of home brewing in Australia. My deadline is this Friday, so if you are interested please email your recipe to [email protected]. Thank you Beer God - the calendar is looking amazing and I do thank you for your AG suggestion, it was really the only way to go! We do have two extract with specialty grain recipes as well - so it is a really good mix with National and International champions. The food matching looks great as well. I am currently working on the back-end/blog so that brewers can download food matching recipes and an order form by scanning a QR Code.
