I've just made a raspberry beer (added to recipe db today), its not finished yet but tasted a sample from the fermenter - and it tasted good. But my wife said - it still tastes like beer. So the thought struck me - why not make a raspberry cider? Surely the raspberry would blend more harmoniously with apple and pear than it does with barley and hops?

I've made 2 batches of cider for SWMBO using apple/pear juice from Woolies, and she is very happy with the results. So can I add some raspberries to it, in just the same way as I did with the beer?? In the case of the beer, i fermented for one week, then racked green beer onto 2.1 kg frozen raspberry (that 3 packets of Sara lee frozen raspberries).

Any comments on whether this would work, and what is right amount of raspberries?

it works really well mate got one sitting in the fermentor right now.
i used 1L of berry juice in this one though

Thanks Barls, so you used 1L of berry (cherry) juice? How much apple juice did you use? Fresh or packaged?

Thanks

both were packaged, its made up to 4.5L in a small gallon carboy.
i think the berry juice was a blend i found in the green grocer down the road.
have used whole raspberries before just couldnt be bothered this time.
i use 1kg of farm fresh one in my current batch of mead
