I mean, have you seen the SLUDGE in the bottom of your water tank???
ever seen the pushbikes and dead animals in the unlined hole in the ground where mains water comes from?
I'll take the sludge.

At least the reticulated water supply comes loaded with chloramines, chlorine and fluoride... for your drinking pleasure.

Seriously, though, we've gone a bit off topic. the original question was whether rainwater needs pH adjustment of mineral additions. I also use rainwater and add a small amount of calcium and 5.2.

Anyway, percolating your drinking water though possum turds gives your beer that inimitable 'Aussie Bush' character
:D

Do you mean for AG brews or K&K? I think the author is only doing extract brews and would have no reason to change the pH of the water.

True,

I'm doing all-grain, so I assumed...

For extract rain water is perfect as all the minerals from the water will be in the extract.

MFS.

Slightly OT

But I was thinking of using water straight from my hot tap (SE Melbourne townsupply) to save time get up to temp for my BIAB, but this is too hot to put thru my filter. Will the chlorine dissipate during the mash/boil or do i still really need to filter.

Hot-water systems are a beautiful breeding ground for lots of "warm temperature" nasties...I would use straight tap water and tank water over water that comes from a hot water service...

That said, if you've got one of those continuous hot water thingies then it would be OK...
