Lads,

A quick heads up - if you are interested in what appears to be a good read - Randy Moshers - Radical brewing (well at least the first 25 pages) is a good mix a embelished truths and solid information covering all aspects of brewing.

The description of how brewing developed was a good laugh

So far I give the big thumbs up. :D

regards

I have just bought this book from Amazon and am currently waiting for it to arrive. I borrowed a copy of "Designing Great Beers" from a mate and its an excellent book too. Apparently, Radical brewing is in a similar vein but possibly written in a bit more of a "casual" style. That's what I have heard anyway.

I have ordered both books anyway, and am looking forward to them arriving!

I bought those two books from Amazon last year too and am very happy with both of them. They are not really that similar, in fact they are totally different, but complement each other well.

DGB explores the styles, and how to brew beers of each style. Good to look at before you want to brew a brown ale for example.

RB is much more anti-style. Looks at lots of weird and wonderful ingredients, techniques and unusual historic beer styles. Good to look at when you want some inspiration and gets you to try something different like toasting your own malt, cooking up some sugar or brew some Devon white ale.

Enjoy. :super:

There are a few recipes in this book that look interesting to me.
Trying to locate some red rice everytime I see an Indian grocery shop so I can brew the Red Pilsner.

I have Radical Brewing, and it is a interesting read. Just make sure you know about the long list of errors in it.

There is an extensive list of them on the RB website. Before you brew a recipe where accuracy counts, it would be advisable to check out that there is no errors in your recipe.

That aside it is a pretty non confronting read particularly for the new brewer.

Yes, he seems to have real trouble converting from imperial to metric, as well as all the other numeric mistakes.

Still like it for all the ideas.

I'm back on the hunt for some Red Rice. Has anyone else found any ?

Beers,
Doc

there is an indian grocery around the corner from me, i will have a look in there for you.

I've got some in my cupboard, Doc.

Most Indian shops in my area seem to have some red rice. I'd guess that if you can find an Indian grocery shop , your hunt for red rice is over. :D

i'v reciently recieved a copy of the book myself and the first couple of Chapters are nothing but inspiring. havn't actually got upto any of the recipes yet but noticed there is about 5 pages just on spices (havn't read that bit yet just flicked) great book and thanks to whomever it was who started the free book with AHA membership thread

Thanks guys.
Every store I've been into and asked for Red Rice, I just get the weirdest looks. You want what ? Then a few conversions in different languages behind the counter, before getting the answer No.
Does anyone know of an Indian supermarket down the Chinatown end of Sydney ?

Try the big Thai supermarket next to the Golden Century on Sussex, under the building. It's a bit claustrophobic but you should be able to find it there i would think. If not plenty of Asian shops around the place should have it, the Indian shops might not really stock it.

Doc, a couple of months back, i bought some from an asian grocery on Campbell st near the corner of Pitt st. Some places call it red jasmine or red thai, but you should be fine just asking for red rice. FYI, it is a longer grain skinnier than "normal" rice. my daughter loves it.

let me know if you don't find it & I'll go hunting for you - I work a couple of blocks away from China town, besides it gives me an excuse to go trawling through asian grocery stores B) .

So now she has a balanced diet. Raw red rice and malted wheat.

FYI, Doc, the packet I have says Raw Red Rice, it's from Sri Lanka and I bought it in an Indian shop in Ashfield.

Thanks for the tips guys. Will go wandering.
It is the Asian places I've had probs locating it in, hence the request for Indian.
