Hey,

Probably does not matter where you get it from but just ensure that you ask for a Certificate of Assessment (COA) for each and every batch of malt you get. There are some unscupulous retailers out there that will give you "slack malt" because they suspect you will not complain or know the difference.

This goes quadrupaly for those buying a full sack of malt!!

cheers

Thanks for the heads up.
Didnt know they were there & drive past there every day too!

Hi Guys,

is there anywhere in the S/E burbs of Melbounrne to buy milled grain. Or do you all head over to G+G ?

cheers
Matt

I have my own mill but I get my grain from GG. Within metro victoria anything up to 20 kg is only $7.45 delivery (cost of postage) and it's usually there within a couple of days. Milling grain is a tiny extra fee. You could do worse.

Manzicle.

Better off forming a co-operative (not for profit) group and buying the malt one hell of a lot cheaper than you are now (especially if you have a mill)

Just my 0.02c worth

Taken part in a couple of bulk buys but if I was going to go as far as forming a co-op I'd have to extend it to grocery shopping etc etc. Being less than well-off, I do try and find the cheapest, best quality compromise with most things but my main concern is whether or not I can afford it rather than whether or not I think it should be cheaper. I'll shop around for the best deal and try and work out my own way of doing things (growing veges, hops etc) but I only have time for so much and I've only been buying grain for just on a year so if I can afford to buy 15 kg of ale malt at the specified price then I'm likely to do it. If I can't then I won't.

I also try and co-operate with other brewers I know to split things like hops etc so we all benefit. Maybe that's a small scale, informal co-op?

What's it like in your neck of the woods co-op wise?

And here I was thinking you had an inflated opinion of the value of your contributions. Turns out you're quite the realist.
