I was after some advice on where to get a gas bottle for dispensing and gassing kegs. Living in Perth, and it seems like a set up with a 2.3kg bottle is going to cost around $370, does this sound about right?

Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Buddha - im not a kegger but I think you should try: BOC, My-keg-on legs or a place called Air Liquide. They all do gas bottles. Have a quick search.
Cheers

There are also a good number of threads in this forum posted by those who use fire extinguishers as a source of CO2 as well.

But that would involve using the search function :p

Thanks Steve, I have had a look at those places and have a better idea now. All I have to do is think of the most appropriate size for my operation. I might even get the 2.3 kg bottle here in Perth for gassing and dispensing at home and a soda stream bottle for taking out

Im in melbourne so not sure about perth. BOC and Air liquide both charge quite a high rental for the bottle. I think its around $100 or more per year. Home brew shops here (grain and grape) have done a deal with air liquide for home brewers at $18 rental per year. The gas is about $30 for a change over (a little higher than BOC) but It lasts ages. I have now done 9 kegs gassed and poured and the gauge has not shown a sign of emptying.

$380 sound about right for a 2 keg setup with fridge door tap and gas reg and disconnects.

I also recently ordered kegs from the US, 4 will cost you $180AUD to your door. Thats the same as 2 from your home brew shop, however you do have to wait 8 to 12 weeks shipping.

Hope this helps.

Maybe it's worth considering adding something to the Posting Guidelines along the lines of "for the sanity of other users, pls consider using the search function before posting a new post; there's every chance someone has asked a similar question before".

Either that or post an FAQ link to all of the Airlocked posts? Both of these techniques used extensively in other forums.

FWIW Buddha - I just rent from Air Liquide, and use a Soda-stream bottle for travel.

Sorry everyone, I am a new user and have finally figured out how the search function can be very useful. Thanks for the advice, I am looking into the options at the moment. B)

I do always like to recommend the search function, but I do have to be honest the thing drives me friggin nuts. Maybe it's just me but can't get the bloody thing to work properly 90% of the time and nearly every search enquiry I put in turns up an error.

I can't blame people for just posting the question instead.

Anyone care to offer up any techniques for using the search function? I can get a few results for single word searches but if you do more words, even linked together with AND I just get errors constantly. I can use all other search engines, so is it just a problem I have with this sites one or does everyone else have the same problem?

Unless you hit the correct wording it becomes very frustrating. What i do say for gas bottles is go to the gear and equipment section and just browse over the topic headers. Can be long and tedious i know but it can help get what you are after.

Cheers
