Well, I've done quite a few Povo APA's and AIPA's since I started this post.
My best results, and which I'll be sticking to for a while are;

1 can Coopers Aus Pale, 200 or 300g of dextrose
and made up to 14 litres for session beer or 10 litres for stronger
and dry hopped with various C hops coz I like that Seppo thing.
I use the Brewers Friend recipe calculator to work out the %alc.

Beer is a lovely golden colour, nice bitterness but not overly so, and good aromas and taste from the dry hop.
I have made it with Coopers Real Ale, but it's too bitter and the colour is a shitty brown.

All in, I'm pretty happy with the results. Very easy to make up,quick to bottle and cheap. And a great way to try different hops without ending up with 23 litres of swill. I use two 20 litre paint buckets from bunnies and some good taps.

Thanks to everyone who helped me on my quest to reinvent the wheel!
