On the phone so can't do a search FFS.
Anyone use this stuff for filling kettles etc? I've painted myself into a corner with the new rig and need to fill the HLT by hose as I can't slide it out to fill with a bucket any more.

Apparently it's rated to the relevant Australian Standard for potable water, and won't impart off flavours, but when I smelt it at the green shed, ( to the bemusement of the staff) it smelled decidedly rubbery.
Don't really want to buy 10m of silicone tube, but I don't really trust this stuff at face (nose) value without getting a second opinion.

Cheers,

I've used blue drinking water hose from a caravan retailer that looks like the same stuff. I leave it in partial sun most of the time but use a filter and just run off a few litres first. Never tasted any hose like flavours from the water.

Lol pope.

I just bought an aldi 'drinking water' hose. I filled up my soda water keg in situe without having to lift the bugger out and in, I got no smell or taste off it (unlike say a garden hose) and the best part I was I didn't have to deal with the spaghetti of beer lines etc!

My only concern is getting the appropriate 'food grade' connectors...

PS I pulled up that standard and there wasn't much in it, it basicly said it had to be food grade.

I thought it was something about the Pope drink from a water hose...
What did Pope Wong I ( the first Chinese Pontiff) say when he drank from a hose?

Ahhh, Rubbery!

Now that's put paid to any casually racist japes, Mr Squirt and others, did you prep the hose in any way before use?

Cheers,

I've been looking for something similar. A lot of caravan sites comment that the pope brand in particular ends up putting out plastic tasting water. Super cheap have drinking water hoses that I'm looking at. Haven't found any comments for or against them. Most other brands seem to be positively commented on. Just universal ire at pope...

Yeah, I saw those reviews too, which got me worried. Might go and have a sniff of the super cheap option, even though it's.. er... More expensive than the Papist hose.

There are a few on eBay too. I think the nylex oneshave a good rep.

I use one with no flavour issues, however I also use a 2 stage carbon filter on the water on its way to the HLT.

This would do the job it has Nylex water transfer hose printed on it. image.jpg
Cheers....spog....

I bought the cheap nylon hose that comes wrapped around a rickety plastic reel thingy. Being nylon I'm more comfortable using that + it goes out with the brewery and comes back in with the brewery, takes bugger all space and hasn't given me any plastic taste. Ymmv. I'll take a pic and post if you want. I reckoned if biabers can use nylon stockings for their entire mash surely I can use a nylon hose for cold water delivery!

Edit: It is called patio by Jamie durie from bigW. 10m hose, packs up a hand wide by hand and a half tall by less than a hand deep. Was quite cheap to boot. Like the cheap and effective 19L pots.

I use the blue food grade hose, got a Y splitter on the tap so I can use the garden hose to wash and the blue side to fill the HLT, I never noticed any "hosiness" from the garden hose, but using the blue food grade one does please me..

:)

I picked one up about 6 months ago from Aldi, have not used it yet so cant add anything of any value.......
I like to know its in the brewery though ready if I need it....it was bought to accomadate a brewery plan that has since been changed.

Ok, I went with the super cheap auto option. Aussie made potable water hose by RX plastics. It had no smell in the shop, and only a very faint plastic smell after running hot water through it. I've got it sitting full of cold water now, which will hopefully leach any nastiness out of it,

Will report back after a brew!
