I have seen some picture of converted Kegs with the plastic sight glass on the side so You know ho may liters you are filing up to and have left.

Where abouts can you pick this up and does anyone have the simple idea on how to mount it and all that jazz.

Tried a search but i could not find anything under " Plastic tube thingy"

Cheers
Tk :D

Grain and Grape sell a sight glass kit, I think its weldless....

Have a look at the website (no affiliation etc...)

Sloth.

Hmmm

I've got one on my HLT

No hassle at all - you need a 1/2 inch elbow compression fitting and some polycarbonate tubing. You can get poly tube which is a perfect fit into the comp fitting. Only trouble is sourcing the poly tube. Might have to ring around a bit. ALso you will need to bolt the fitting onto the side of your keg.

Unfortunately it gets a little tricky here. Most threaded fittings do not have straight thread - they have tapered threads so you cannot just get a nut and bolt it onto anything - I solved this problem with a few big metal washers which spaces the part of the thread which would 'lock' from the point where the nut tightens onto the keg -

I use a piece of polycarbonate tubing, inserted into a short peice of 1/2" copper tube, which is connected to the kettle with a brass flange elbow.

The polycarb tube is sealed into the copper using Selley's 401 silicon, and the tube is tied to a ruler or similar.

I have mates who have built their sight glass from clear polytube... not sure that it lasts long, but it seems to do the trick for them.

Will post a picky tomorrow.

I got a brass push in fitting, an elbow and some 1/2" nipple. used polycarb tube for the sightglass.
I just added 5L at a time then marked it on the tube with an artline, then divided each section into 5 to have 1 litre measurements, works well. Pics are on my webpage (there's a link in my profile) if you want to have a look.

That is a cool picture thanks Sammus, can You or any body else tell me where you can purchase the tubing is it just a bunnings job

I don't think Bunnings would handle polycarb. Menzels would be a better option.

No matter how hard I try I can never find a place that sells polycarb tubing?

Devo,
Profile Plastics in Barry Street, Bayswater.
$10.00 for about 2 mtrs as a cash sale.
I don't have the phone number but it will be in the yellow pages.

Hope it helps,
Luke

I got my poly tube from Profile Plastics - here's my latest sight tube effort.

As I described in an earlier post, the poly tube slots into the copper and is sealed up with Selley's 401 sealant.

It's worth pointing out - you will need some way to support the tubing. The poly tube will withstand the temperatures of boiling, however it will sag. My first efforts were disasterous. This time around I've secured the poly to the backing using a few wire ties.

Have fun,

Andy
