G'day to all,

I have been using kegs instead of bottles for a few months now 'cause it's easier to clean 1 keg instead of 50 stubbies :)

I am now able to procure a couple of 'Pin Lock' kegs (Coca Cola).

Would it be possible to convert these kegs to the 'Ball Lock' (Pepsi) type ?

Cheers.

Yep it is easy. Just buy the ball lock fittings and replace them. They can be expensive though.

Yup, I just did the same conversion, twenty clams each for the valves (keg only) and was the price of convenience.

While in some cases conversion is very easy, in others it is not.

Mytton brand kegs for example, are easy as they manufactured kegs for both companies. Others however manufactured their kegs with uncommon thread sizes to avoid easy changeover. This was done so no one could have say, a pepsi system installed in the thier establihment and then use coca-cola kegs. even if they changed the fittings.

I boughta coke pin-lock keg a while ago and had to manufacture an adaptor to facilite conversion.

Do some research first. ;)

Cheers

I did some looking around and found I can buy the 'Pin Lock' disconnects.

Then I can connect these fittings to the main beer/gas lines with those John Guest connectors.

Why didn't I think of that in the first place??????

Cheers.

For my first brew i got bottles............

but am now thinking a keg is the way to go.

I've been reading a bit about it however one thing thats not clear is Pin lock or Ball lock, Which is better?

or is it just personal preference?

I've had a look on eBay etc and both types are available.

Appreciate any advice (within reason and good taste) :icon_cheers:

As far as I'm aware there's no real benefit from one or the other, but you'd really want your whole set-up to have all the same fittings to save you stuffing around hooking up kegs to tap lines
