thanks Manticle. I'm sure I've just over reacted but it just looked odd - glossy black surface with no foam or krausen, shimmering under a layer of gas :)

t was a 9 L batch with half a packet of yeast - could that be considering under pitching ?
 
Depends a bit on the yeast amount, freshness and health.
at 1.020 a lot of the krausen may have subsided.

Or it may have been totally fucked. Best way to know and learn is to be patient rather than reactive.

Brew another, move on, can't cry over spilled beer.
 
First Pale ale being "tested". Super nice. Very light but still ABV 5%. Not like coopers more like a euro style. Very happy.

Right now this tastes like the best beer in the world :)
