Greetings brew folk,
I'd appreciate criticism of the idea of a party system that is one corny keg with beer and another with CO2.
The CO2 keg to be charged at 200-250psi or thereabouts.
The system would be
A pluto on the beer keg
just gas in the other keg
a gas line connecting the two kegs
an in-line tap in that gas line.
When the beer flow slows then just "blip" the in line tap to push a bit more gas into the beer keg.
The thinking being that if I have 200psi of gas in an otherwise empty keg by the time the beer keg is empty there should be around 100psi of gas remaining in both kegs, which is is enough to drive the pluto.
.Stupid idea?
best of wishes
Davidh

Well, for a start 200psi is a higher pressure than the rating for Cornelious kegs.

Sure you could remove the pressure release valve and block the hole so it doesn't release...but then you are risking a BIG AND DANGEROUS BANG!

PZ.

200psi? i thought the corny's were only rated to 120-150psi?
are you going to transport this gas filled keg? could be dangerous?
why dont you just use a 330gm soda stream bottle for your gas.
this would be cheap and less wastefull of gas.

just my two bob.

I thought about doing something similar myself many times, but never actually did it...

I think (that is to say, I THINK) that the Rheem kegs with the screw-in bungs have the highest pressure rating at something like 160PSI. From memory the others are usually 120PSI or thereabouts. Please check for yourself though.

Another option is to use a small air compressor or bike pump to pressurise, if you plan on drinking it all within a day or two.

Personally I love my sodastream bottle and reg though. Compact and professional. It's how the SAS would do it...

Hey David,

This should work fine, but I think you mean 200kpa or about 20psi. Either way I think your saying just pressurized the gas keg to twice what the serving keg is carbonated to.

Cheers
Jye

Thanks all for the prompt replies
ah.......
yes a small brain fart confused psi with kpa.
apologies to all
