Hi All,

I have inherited a lovely old keg. See attached photos. One is with it next to a 95L pot to give it a size comparison. From a brief search im guessing its 80L??

I am thinking of using it as a fermenter with a 'Cross' (). Anyone have experience in doing this?

Thanks in advance

Thor

I'm not sure you will get a tri-clover fitting onto the keg Thor? You may have to get an adaptor welded onto the keg. I just checked a 3" tri-clover fitting in my brewery and it is 90mm diameter.

Hi Razz,

I was thinking of screwing the Cross-T directly into the existing cap. It has 1" female thread on the cap. THe existing lid still has an o-ring. would need to check if it holds pressure of course.

In that case you should be good to go. I looked at the video in your OP, it would be fine. You could make one up out of parts, did you get a quote on the one from NorCal?

Another way to go - just a quick search on eBay - there are other ways to get to the same place

Thanks Mark,

I have it all up and running - even holding pressure.

Anyone off the top of their head know exactly how many litres this keg is?

I just emptied a bit over 80L into it from boil kettle. There was still a bit of room in it for more! Monster keg.
Well if nothing else I am thinking I can at least ferment 3 x 19L kegs worth at a time. I just don't want to have to move it once its full!
