If you don't have all the other hops and malts for Janet's Brown then why not a simple California Common?

Here's my Cali Common recipe that won BoS at the AABC in 2007(?)

4.5kg Maris Otter (or other pale malt will do, I'm sure)
0.5kg Medium Crystal (yes, you definitely want about 10% crystal)
0.1kg Wheat malt (for body, head retention etc)

Mash pretty high, like 68C. I learnt after brewing this that my thermomenter was waaay off and I was actually mashing at 72C (and some breweries like Lagunitas in California actually do mash at around 72-74 see The BN for more details) but 68 will be fine.

16g Northern Brewer @ 6.2% AAU for 90mins
21g Northern Brewer @ 6.2% AAU for last 30mins
18g Northern Brewer @ 6.2% AAU for last 10mins
26g Northern Brewer @ 6.2% AAU at flameout

Target IBUs = 40
22L at end of boil.

OG: 1.057
Yeast US-05, fermented at 20C

easy!

cheers,

Dan

EDIT:

ah FFS! I should really read the full OP before responding so eagerly!!

He already HAS a California Common :/

Northern Brewer is an excellent all-rounder hop that can be used in a bunch of different brews for bittering and flavour - make anything!

Just another idea, how about a steam beer? Not a bad idea for brewing in this hotter weather. Plus Northern Brewer is the signature hop of, eg. Anchor Steam

It's a really good all round hop, don't be afraid to try it in most styles at a pinch

I think he's looking for something different in style to the Cali Common already in the fermenter.

I have been using NB in my Cream Ale [SWMBO's favourite - light, easy drinker], in fact probably shouldn't call it a cream ale any more as the corn has since been left out... but even my corona drinking mate, who calls my APA's the 'curry' of beer.. "Its just too much flavour mate.." haha, got hooked on it!

Obviously not a hop driven beer but if you want to just use them up:

Recipe looks like this:
