I pitched my dried yeast (S-189) as I always do, 10 days ago. For some reason I didn't check back to see how things were going until late last night.

Nothing has happened, it has been 10 days since I pitched that yeast.

Is the brew stuffed or should I pitch some more?

Wasn't sure if 10 days in the fermentor at 11C without active yeast would be too good for it.

Adam,

As long as there's no visible sign of infection you should be fine, no different then keeping a no chill cube, other than the risk of contamination is a bit higher. I had 2 brews that took over 1 month to fire (massively under pitched)
& they were fine. also being a lager, the storage temp will have helped.

This is just the the 2nd time I've heard of this yeast not firing - but considering what an active yeast this is, it's very strange.

cheers Ross

Ooooh 10 days doesn't sound good Slugger

What's the gravity? Did you rehydrate? I always use 1:100 pitching rate and rehydrate. Have had a pack of 189 stored in the freezer for over 6 months and it still kicks off in about 24 hrs.

Screwy

No rehydration as I'm lazy, I've never had a problem before, infact this yeast is usually great.

Gravity at the moment is 1045. First time I have measured the gravity in over a year...maybe 2 (Yeah Lazy)

I have one more yeast in the fridge, I will rehydrate this time and re-pitch.

I'll See how I go.
